SkateBox

For downhill skateboarding

Where did the time go?

Put a RaceBox on your board and ride. SkateBox finds every run in the recording and lays it out on the hill: your time through each section, your speed in and out of every corner, where you braked and where the board stepped out.

Works with the RaceBox Mini S and RaceBox Micro. The iPhone app is in beta; your days are on this site too.

Try it with your own file

Got a RaceBox session exported as a CSV, from the RaceBox app or racebox.pro? Give it to this page and SkateBox reads it the way it reads a day off the box: your runs, your times, the slides and the replay. One file or a whole day of them.

Your file stays on your device. This page reads it, in your browser. Nothing is uploaded, nothing is kept on our side, and you don't need an account.

The first time, the page downloads the engine that does the reading, about 8 MB. After that it is quick.

What comes off the box

Screens from two of Luke's days: Britannia Beach, and the World Skate Games course in Asunción.

The Feed: a card for each day with the hill, runs, best lap, top speed, drop and grade, over a satellite map of the runs
Your daysEvery day you ride gets a card: the hill, how many runs, your best time, your top speed and the line you took.
A day on the World Skate Games course in Asuncion: the map with the lap record and top speed marked, seven runs, best lap 1:02.80, two sector bests
The dayAsunción, October 2: seven runs, a 1:02.80 that set the lap record there, and two sector bests.
The start of a run at Britannia Beach in the replay: four pushes counted, from 2 to 24.4 km/h
The replayThe start at Britannia: four pushes, 2 to 24 km/h, read from the board itself. Further down the hill, a slide shows up as the deck swinging off its line.

Race your own runs

Pick any two runs from the same hill, from any day, and play them on the map together. Watch the gap, the speed, or the grip and slip of both boards through every corner.

Asunción, the October 2 record run in blue against one from the day before in red, ten seconds in: the blue board takes one clean slide through the hairpin, the red one slips three times, and the load on each wheel shows who was still gripping. The red run finished 3.81 seconds back.

Compare on the World Skate Games course, grip and slip: run 7 on October 2 in blue against run 8 on October 1 in red in the same hairpin, the blue run with one slide, the red with three, and each board's wheel loads

What it picks up

Getting your runs in

  1. 1
Ride with the box on your board. A RaceBox Mini S or Micro, mounted wherever you already run it.
  2. 2
Download it. Over Bluetooth from the SkateBox iPhone app, or from Chrome on a computer here on the site. Already have RaceBox CSV exports? Upload those instead, or try one here first.
  3. 3
Look at your day. A few minutes later it is on your phone and at skatebox.app, sorted by hill.

Your runs stay yours

Nobody else sees your runs, not even the riders you were out with that day. You can download everything SkateBox holds about you, or delete your account, from the app. The privacy policy says exactly what is kept and where.
